As promised, here are the totals from my 5th annual "Byrd For Birds" food drive. This year another 8 tons of food and more than $18,000 in cash donations were donated by Loyal Loopers. To date, nearly 100 tons of food and $100,000 in cash donations have been raised for Chicagoans in need! As you might imagine in these times of economic challenges, the Greater Chicago Food Depository is being called upon to provide meals for significantly more people than in past years. If you were unable to get by the Merchandise Mart with a donation, but would still like to contribute a frozen turkey, non-perishable food item or simply to donate some money to have these items purchased in your name, you can contact the Greater Chicago Food Depository directly at 773-247-FOOD or log onto www.chicagosfoodbank.org.

Once again, my heartfelt thanks to the Loyal Loopers who took the time to share with others and my fellow Loop staffers who helped make it all possible again this year. You guys and gals are the best!

Kid Rock's love of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Seger and all things classic rock was in full evidence once again this past weekend.

As a teenager, Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister was there furiously taking notes during early Beatles shows at Liverpool's Cavern Club. A few years later, Lemmy was hauling around equipment as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix. Fast forward some 40 years and his dedication and love for rock & roll is undiminished. This past weekend saw Lemmy and his band Motorhead mark their 35th anniversary with a contagious and ear-splitting celebration of his beloved vocation before a sold-out crowd at the Congress Theater.

Fresh off his halftime cameo at the Superbowl, Slash presented Chicago with a unique Valentine's Day gift this past weekend. Before a roaring crowd of Loyal Loopers, Slash and Myles Kennedy of Alterbridge ripped through numerous Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver classics and then brought local hero Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick on-stage to jam on Cheap Trick's version of "Ain't That A Shame."

We lost another guitar great this weekend. Gary Moore, best known for time in Thin Lizzy was found dead while vacationing in Spain. He was only 58. While Gary only appeared in recorded form occasionally (most notably on the Thin Lizzy album "Black Rose"), he spent nearly a decade involved on and off with Lizzy.
